New Holland SFA 10003 – SFA: Front suspension piston Side Valve solenoid is open circuit or shorted to ground

This indicates an electrical failure in the circuit that controls the hydraulic valve responsible for the piston side of the front axle suspension cylinder. The system has detected that the electrical path is either broken (open circuit, such as a severed wire or burnt-out solenoid coil) or that the voltage is taking an unintended path to the chassis (shorted to ground, such as chafed wire insulation touching metal).

   Inspect the wiring harness leading down to the front suspension control valve block (usually mounted near the front axle) for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the piston side valve solenoid. Check for moisture, dirt, corrosion, or bent pins that could cause an open circuit.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. Infinite resistance indicates an internally broken (open) coil.

   Check for continuity between the solenoid pins and the tractor chassis; if there is continuity, the solenoid is shorted to ground.

   With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and check the harness side for proper voltage from the SFA module, and ensure the ground wire has a clean path back to the chassis.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Relieve Pressure

   Safely support the front axle. Relieve the hydraulic pressure in the suspension system to prevent the axle from dropping suddenly or high-pressure fluid from spraying.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the front suspension control valve block assembly on the front axle. Identify the specific piston side valve solenoid.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or cap head screws holding the solenoid coil to the valve block. Slide the faulty solenoid off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the valve cartridge itself is damaged, the entire section or valve kit may need to be replaced, requiring new O-rings between the valve block sections).

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the cartridge and secure the retaining nut/screws.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

   Calibration

   Start the tractor and use a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or the OEM dealer tool) to clear the SFA 10003 fault code. You may need to perform an SFA system calibration to restore proper suspension raise/lower functionality.
