SFA 10004

New Holland SFA 10004 – SFA (Suspended Front Axle) Controller: Front Suspension Position sensor out of Range High Error

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the front axle position sensor that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to power, an open ground circuit in the sensor wiring, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

  • New Holland T8010-T8050

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the position sensor housing and linkage on the front axle suspension assembly for physical damage from field debris or mud.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, check the sensor's ground circuit for an open condition.

  4. Test the signal wire for a short-to-power, which directly triggers the out of range high error.

  5. View live data for the front suspension position sensor using a diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or CNH EST) to verify if the voltage is pegged at 5V or system voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes to the SFA module.

  2. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness from the front suspension position sensor. Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket on the front axle saddle/suspension arm.

  3. Install the New Sensor

Mount the replacement OEM sensor in the exact orientation as the old one. Torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications.

  4. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the locking tab clicks.

  5. SFA Calibration

Connect a diagnostic tool and perform an SFA (Suspended Front Axle) Calibration. This allows the control module to learn the minimum and maximum voltage sweeps of the new sensor so it can accurately control the suspension valves.

  6. Clear Codes

Clear the 10004 fault code and test the suspension raise/lower functions to verify the repair.
