SFA 10018

New Holland SFA 10018 – Front Suspension Control Module (SFA): Front Suspension Pump not tank Solenoid over current

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the electrical current drawn by the "Pump not tank" solenoid (the valve responsible for routing hydraulic flow from the pump to the front suspension cylinders) has exceeded the maximum expected threshold. This almost always points to a direct short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series (e.g., T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390, T8.410, T8.420, T8.435)

Check the cause

  1. Trace the wiring harness from the Front Suspension control module to the suspension valve block (located near the front axle). Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted areas that could be shorting the power wire to the tractor's chassis (ground).

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the "Pump not tank" solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. If the reading is near 0 ohms, the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.

  3. Inspect the solenoid connector for water ingress, mud, or corrosion that could be bridging the pins and causing a short.

  4. If the wiring and solenoid test fine, the internal driver inside the Front Suspension ECU may be shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a flat, level surface.

  2. Lower the Axle

Allow the front axle to lower completely so that it rests securely on the mechanical support stops.

  3. Depressurize the System

Locate the load sense unload valve on the front suspension valve block. Rotate the screw clockwise to manually depressurize the suspension accumulators and hydraulic lines.

  4. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent accidental start-up or further electrical damage to the ECU.

  5. Remove the Solenoid

Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty "Pump not tank" solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve cartridge and slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the stem.

  6. Install the New Part

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the cartridge valve and tighten the retaining nut. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Restore Hydraulic Function

Rotate the load sense unload valve screw counterclockwise back to its original operating position.

  8. Test and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Clear the inactive fault codes. Test the suspension raise/lower functions. Note: You may need to perform a front suspension travel range calibration via the tractor's display if the system limits were reset.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Front Suspension Control Valve Solenoid Coil / Pump-to-Tank Solenoid

    CNH 84130922

This solenoid mounts directly onto the front MFD suspension manifold system block. If the internal cartridge valve is also damaged or stuck, the entire cartridge assembly may need to be ordered alongside the coil.
