SFA 10019

New Holland SFA 10019 – Front Suspension control module (SFA): Front Suspension rod Side Solenoid over current

Issue description

The control module has detected an electrical current draw that exceeds the maximum allowable limit on the circuit controlling the rod-side solenoid of the front suspension cylinder. This is almost always caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series (e.g., T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390, T8.420)
  • New Holland T6 and T7 Series (e.g., T6030, T6070, TM series)

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness routed down to the front suspension control valve block for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the chassis causing a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the rod-side solenoid and inspect the pins for water ingress, corrosion, or melting.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the rod-side solenoid coil. A reading at or near zero ohms indicates an internal short.

  4. With the solenoid disconnected and the key ON, use a multimeter to check the harness side for a short to ground. Repair any harness shorts before installing a new solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any attached implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and safely support the front chassis.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the front suspension system according to the operator's manual to ensure safe working conditions.

  3. Locate the valve block

Locate the front suspension control valve block, which is typically mounted near the front axle assembly.

  4. Identify the solenoid

Identify the rod-side solenoid (refer to the machine's hydraulic schematic to distinguish it from the piston-side or lock-out solenoids).

  5. Disconnect the harness

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  6. Remove the retaining nut

Remove the retaining nut or fastener securing the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge.

  7. Remove the faulty coil

Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem. (Note: If the valve cartridge itself is damaged or leaking, unscrew it from the manifold block and replace it as well).

  8. Install the new coil

Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve cartridge and secure it with the retaining nut.

  9. Reconnect the harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness connector.

  10. Clear codes and calibrate

Power on the tractor, clear the inactive SFA 10019 fault code using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab monitor, and perform a front suspension calibration if prompted by the system.
