New Holland SFA 10021 – Front Suspension control module: Front Suspension lock out Solenoid over current

The control module has detected that the electrical current draw on the circuit for the front suspension lockout solenoid has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold. This over current condition is almost always caused by a short circuit, typically pointing to either a short to ground in the wiring harness between the controller and the solenoid, or an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front suspension hydraulic valve block for chafed wire insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the chassis.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the lockout solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or melting.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the lockout solenoid coil using a multimeter. A reading near 0 ohms indicates an internal short.

   With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key ON and use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the power supply wire to test for a shorted harness.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Safely support the front chassis/axle with heavy-duty stands, as working on suspension valves can cause the suspension to drop suddenly.

   Relieve Pressure

   Turn the steering wheel back and forth and cycle the hydraulic remotes to relieve residual hydraulic pressure.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the front suspension control valve block (usually mounted near the front axle) and identify the specific lockout solenoid.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the lockout solenoid.

   Remove the Coil

   Remove the retaining nut at the top of the solenoid stem. Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If only the coil is shorted, you do not need to open the hydraulic system. If the cartridge itself is damaged, unscrew it from the block and be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut to OEM torque specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

   Test

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or by cycling the battery power. Start the tractor and test the front suspension lockout functionality to ensure the code does not return.
