TMF 135

New Holland TMF 135 – TMF (Tractor Multifunction Controller): Aux 4th Lower Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.

Issue description

The controller is sensing electrical current flowing to the auxiliary remote #4 lower/retract solenoid coil even when the driver circuit is commanded OFF. This indicates that the circuit has shorted directly to a 12-volt power source.

Check the cause

  1. Turn the key ON and confirm TMF 135 is active.

  2. Locate the electronic remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and disconnect the electrical harness from the Aux 4th Lower/Retract solenoid.

  3. With the solenoid unplugged, check the active fault codes. If the code changes from TMF 135 to TMF 136, the wiring is intact and the solenoid coil itself is internally shorted.

  4. If the code remains TMF 135 with the solenoid unplugged, the short to 12 volts is located in the wiring harness. Inspect the harness between the TMF controller and the valve stack for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom.

  5. Inspect the connectors at the TMF module for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging a 12V power pin to the Aux 4 signal pin.

Repair steps

  1. If the solenoid is faulty: Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

    Safety preparation before working on the hydraulic valve stack.

  2. Locate the 4th remote control valve on the rear hydraulic valve stack.

    Identify the correct valve for the Aux 4th Lower/Retract solenoid.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the lower/retract solenoid coil.

    Unplug the harness to isolate the coil.

  4. Remove the retaining nut or bolt securing the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve cartridge.

    Free the defective coil from the valve stem.

  5. Slide the defective solenoid coil off the valve stem.

    Remove the old part.

  6. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining hardware.

    Install the replacement coil.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Restore electrical connection to the new solenoid.

  8. Turn the key ON, clear the stored fault codes, and cycle the 4th remote valve lever to verify proper operation without the code returning.

    Test the repair to ensure the fault is resolved.

  9. If the wiring harness is faulty: Trace the wiring from the 4th remote valve back to the TMF controller.

    Follow the harness to find the short to 12V.

  10. Locate the section where the wire is shorting to a 12V source (often near pinch points or areas exposed to heat/debris).

    Identify the exact point of damage.

  11. Cut out the damaged section of wire and repair it using weather-sealed splice connectors and heat shrink tubing.

    Perform a weather-tight repair on the harness.

  12. Secure the harness with zip ties to prevent future chafing.

    Prevent the short from recurring.
