TMF 137

New Holland TMF 137 – TMF (Tractor Management Frame / Transmission Controller): Aux 4th Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.

Issue description

The controller is sensing electrical current flowing through the Auxiliary #4 remote valve's extend/raise solenoid coil even when the driver circuit is commanded OFF. This indicates that the circuit has shorted to a 12-volt power source somewhere between the controller and the valve, or within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a harness voltage check: Disconnect the electrical connector at the Aux 4th remote valve raise/extend solenoid. Turn the key ON (engine off) without commanding the valve. Check the harness side for 12 volts. If 12V is present, the wiring harness is shorted to power.

  2. Visually inspect and trace the wiring harness from the rear remote valve block back to the TMF/Armrest controller. Look for chafed, pinched, or melted wire insulation where the solenoid signal wire might be touching a constant 12V supply wire.

  3. Test the resistance of the solenoid coil itself to determine if it has internally shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Safely park the tractor on level ground, lower any attached implements to relieve hydraulic pressure, and turn off the engine.

    Ensure the machine is safe to work on before beginning repairs.

  2. Locate the auxiliary remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the 4th valve section.

    This is where the faulty solenoid is located.

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the "Raise/Extend" solenoid coil on the 4th valve.

    Prepare the solenoid for harness repair or replacement.

  4. If repairing the harness: Locate the damaged section of the wiring harness identified during diagnostics. Splice and solder the damaged wires, seal with heat-shrink tubing, and re-loom the harness to protect it from future chafing.

    Perform this step if the diagnostic checks pointed to a shorted wiring harness.

  5. If replacing the solenoid: Remove the retaining nut or fastener securing the faulty solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve cartridge.

    Perform this step if the diagnostic checks pointed to an internally shorted solenoid coil.

  6. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem.

    Remove the faulty component.

  7. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

    Do not overtighten, as this can distort the cartridge.

  8. Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Restore electrical connection to the repaired or replaced component.

  9. Turn the tractor on, clear the stored TMF 137 fault code, and cycle the 4th remote valve via the armrest controls to verify the repair.

    Confirm the fault code does not return and the valve operates correctly.
