TMF 141

New Holland TMF 141 – TMF Controller: Aux 5th Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts

Issue description

The controller is sensing electrical current on the circuit when the Auxiliary #5 driver is commanded OFF. This indicates that the extend/raise coil for the 5th auxiliary remote valve is experiencing a short circuit directly to a 12-volt power source.

Applies to these machines

  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG245
  • TG255
  • TG275
  • TG285
  • TG305
  • T8010
  • T8020
  • T8030
  • T8040
  • T8050
  • T9000 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the TMF Controller to the Aux 5 remote valve stack for chafed, pinched, or melted wires that could be bridging the solenoid control wire to a constant 12-volt power wire.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Aux 5 Raise/Extend solenoid and test the solenoid coil for an internal short circuit.

  3. With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and check if the 12-volt short is still present on the harness side to determine if the short is in the harness or the TMF controller's internal driver has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage during the repair.

  2. Access the Remote Valve Stack

Locate the electro-hydraulic remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the 5th auxiliary valve section.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to 12V in the wiring harness, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire, or replace the affected harness segment. Secure the harness with zip ties to prevent future rubbing.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

If the Aux 5 Raise coil was internally shorted, remove the retaining nut/hardware holding the solenoid coil to the proportional valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off and install the new replacement solenoid.

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the solenoid electrical connector. Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's instrumentation display to clear the TMF 141 fault code.

  6. Test Operation

Start the tractor and operate the 5th auxiliary remote valve in the raise/extend direction to verify the short has been resolved and the code does not return.
