This condition generally indicates an open circuit in the signal or 5V supply wire, a short to ground in the signal wire, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the 6-pin/3-pin connector at the hitch position potentiometer for physical damage, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Disconnect the sensor and turn the key to the ON position to measure the supply voltage at the connector (should read a steady 5V from the TMF controller).

   Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the TMF controller for continuity and ensure it is not shorted to ground or to the chassis.

   Back-probe the signal wire with a multimeter and manually raise and lower the hitch/linkage to perform a sensor sweep test. The voltage should smoothly sweep up and down; if it stays flat near 0V, the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the hitch completely to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the implement feedback potentiometer, which is typically mounted on the rear rockshaft or draft control linkage assembly.

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Remove the retaining screws/bolts holding the sensor bracket to the linkage.

   Install the new potentiometer. Crucial step: Ensure the mechanical drive tang or linkage arm is properly aligned with the slot on the new sensor before tightening the mounting screws.

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical connector back in and reconnect the battery.

   Perform a hitch/implement calibration procedure using the tractor's in-cab display (or a dealer diagnostic tool). This teaches the TMF controller the new minimum and maximum voltage limits for the new sensor's travel range.
