New Holland TMF 152 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller: Electro Hydraulic Remote top link switch voltage is short circuit
Issue description
The controller has detected a short circuit in the electrical circuit for the Electro Hydraulic Remote (EHR) top link switch, meaning the voltage signal is either shorted to ground or shorted to a power source, preventing the switch from sending valid data.

Check the cause
Locate the EHR top link switch (typically located on the rear fender for external 3-point hitch control or integrated into the cab armrest) and inspect the switch housing for physical damage or moisture ingress.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the top link switch to the TMF controller for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or short to power.
Disconnect the switch and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or debris.
Test the switch itself for internal continuity to see if it is stuck closed/shorted.
With the switch disconnected, turn the key ON and probe the harness-side connector to verify standard reference voltage (usually 5V or 12V) and ensure the signal wire is not shorted to the ground wire or chassis ground.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Switch
Depending on your specific model, remove the rear fender extension panel or the armrest trim panel to access the back of the EHR top link switch.
Remove the Faulty Switch
Unplug the electrical connector. Depress the retaining tabs on the switch body (or remove the retaining screws) and push the switch out of its mounting bezel.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the harness rather than the switch, splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, or replace the affected harness section.
Install the New Part
Snap the new OEM top link switch into the mounting hole. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Reassemble and Test
Reinstall any removed trim panels. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON, clear the inactive TMF 152 fault code via the tractor's display monitor, and test the top link / rear hitch functions to confirm the repair.
