TMF 153

New Holland TMF 153 – TMF: Electro Hydraulic Remote top link switch data invalid

Issue description

The control module is receiving an implausible, conflicting, or out-of-range signal from the switch that controls the electro-hydraulic top link.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T6 Series
  • New Holland T7 Series
  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series
  • New Holland T8040
  • New Holland MXM Series
  • New Holland TM Series

Check the cause

  1. Physically inspect the EHR top link switch on the armrest console and the remote fender switches to ensure they return to neutral and are not jammed by dirt or debris.

  2. Check for related codes like TMF 152 (short circuit) or TMF 120 (stuck on) to help isolate a hard electrical short.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness from the top link switch to the Armrest Controller/TMF module for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or moisture/corrosion in the connector pins.

  4. Back-probe the switch connector with a multimeter to verify voltage changes correctly when toggled, and test for internal continuity to ensure it is not shorted across multiple poles.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the trim panels on the armrest console (or rear fender, depending on which switch is throwing the conflict) to access the EHR switch block.

  3. Disconnect and Isolate

Unplug the electrical connector to the top link switch.

  4. Repair or Replace

If the wiring harness is damaged (chafed wires causing a short to ground or power), repair the wiring using OEM-approved splice kits and heat shrink. If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the multimeter continuity test (internal conflict), remove the retaining clips/screws and extract the faulty switch. Install the new switch.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the console trim.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (like the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the inactive TMF 153 code. Test the top link hydraulic function to ensure smooth operation without throwing a new code.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electro Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Top Link Switch / Auxiliary Remote Switch

When ordering through a New Holland dealer, you must specify whether the conflict is originating from the primary cab armrest joystick/switch block or the external remote fender switch, as they use different part numbers and harnesses.
