New Holland TMF 154 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller: PTO switch interlock - Cab Switch and Fender switch on at the same time.

A safety interlock condition where the system receives an active 'ON' signal from both the primary PTO switch inside the cab and the remote PTO switch located on the rear fender simultaneously. The system locks out the PTO to prevent unintended or unsafe operation.

   Visually inspect both the cab PTO switch and the fender PTO switch to ensure neither is physically jammed, stuck down, or packed with debris holding the button in the 'ON' position.

   Isolate the fender switch (most common failure point due to element exposure): Disconnect the wiring harness to the rear fender switch and turn the key ON. If the code clears or changes to an open-circuit code (like TMF 158), the fender switch is shorted internally.

   Isolate the cab switch: If disconnecting the fender switch does not clear the code, disconnect the cab PTO switch.

   Test both switches with a multimeter for continuity. They should show an open circuit when at rest and continuity only when physically pressed.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the switches and the TMF controller for rubbed or melted wires causing a short-to-voltage, if both switches test good.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Ensure the machine is safely parked before beginning repairs.

   Locate the faulty switch.

   Based on your diagnostic isolation, locate the faulty switch (either on the rear fender or the right-hand cab console/armrest).

   Remove the Fender Switch (if faulty).

   Reach behind the fender panel, depress the locking tab on the electrical connector, and pull it off the switch. Squeeze the retaining clips on the switch body (or remove the retaining nut, depending on the model year) and push the switch out of the fender housing.

   Remove the Cab Switch (if faulty).

   Carefully pry up the switch panel or armrest bezel using a plastic trim tool to avoid scratching the interior. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bottom of the PTO switch and unclip the switch from the panel.

   Install the new switch.

   Snap the new OEM replacement switch into the mounting hole until it clicks securely into place.

   Connect the electrical harness.

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent moisture intrusion (especially critical for the fender switch) and plug it into the new switch.

   Verify the fault code has cleared.

   Turn the tractor key to the ON position and verify that the TMF 154 fault code has cleared.

   Test PTO operation.

   Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement from both the cab and the fender to ensure normal operation.
