New Holland TMF 159 – TMF (Tractor Management Framework): PTO remote fender switch stuck ON

The control module is receiving a continuous, uninterrupted 12-volt signal from the external PTO engagement switch located on the rear fender. This is flagged as a major safety hazard, and the system will typically disable the PTO to prevent accidental engagement or equipment damage.

   Inspect the rear fender PTO switch for physical damage, packed dirt, or debris that might be physically jamming the button in the depressed position.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the fender switch and perform a continuity test. If the switch shows a closed circuit (continuity) when the button is not being pressed, it has failed internally.

   Check the wiring harness leading from the fender to the main cab harness for chafed wires causing a short to 12V.

   Verify the primary PTO switch inside the cab is not also shorted, as conflicting signals can trigger related PTO safety codes.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts and ensure safety while working on the PTO circuit.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty remote PTO switch on the rear fender. If your model is equipped with a protective switch guard/panel, remove the retaining screws and take off the guard.

   Disconnect Harness

   Reach behind the fender panel and unplug the electrical connector from the back of the PTO switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the locking nut, depending on the exact switch style) and push the switch out through the front of the fender bezel.

   Install New Part

   Push the new OEM switch into the fender cutout until it clicks securely into place.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch. Reinstall the protective guard.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and clear the stored TMF 159 fault code from the dashboard/monitor. Test the PTO engagement from both the cab and the fender to confirm the repair.
