New Holland TMF 169 – Armrest Controller: PTO ON/OFF switch has failed in the Armrest Controller

The system detects that both the PTO ON and OFF switches are simultaneously registering as "off," which means that one of the PTO switches is shorted to ground.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the PTO switch inside the armrest down to the Armrest Controller for pinched wires, chafing, or exposed copper touching the chassis/ground

   Disconnect the PTO switch and use a multimeter to test for internal continuity, verifying if the switch is internally shorted to ground when toggled

   Test the specific pins on the Armrest Controller that receive the PTO switch signal to ensure the controller itself isn't internally shorted

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully remove the trim panels or retaining screws on the armrest control console to access the underside of the PTO switch.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty PTO switch.

   Remove and Replace

   Depress the retaining tabs (or remove the mounting screws) holding the PTO switch in the armrest bezel and pull it out. Insert the new OEM PTO switch until it clicks into place.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch. Reinstall the armrest console trim.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the stored TMF 169 fault code. Engage and disengage the PTO to verify the repair.
