New Holland TMF 17 – Armrest Controller: Hitch Position Command potentiometer failed in the Armrest controller
Issue description
The controller is receiving an out-of-range or missing signal from the dial/knob used by the operator to set the rear hitch position.

Check the cause
Test the Potentiometer Resistance: Disconnect the potentiometer and measure the total resistance across the outer pins (Cavity 1 to Cavity 3). It should measure between 900 to 1100 ohms.
Check Potentiometer Sweep: Verify that the rotation is 120 degrees and that the resistance increases smoothly with clockwise (CW) rotation.
Test Connector J206 (Harness Side): Cavity 1 should supply 8 volts regulated power from the armrest controller with key ON. Cavity 2 is signal return. Cavity 3 is ground.
Wiring Inspection: Check for shorts to ground, shorts to power, or open circuits in the wiring harness between the armrest controller and the potentiometer.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Armrest
Disassemble the armrest console to access the internal wiring and the back of the hitch position command dial.
Inspect and Test
Unplug connector J206. Perform the resistance and voltage checks outlined in the diagnostic steps.
Replace or Repair
If the potentiometer fails the 900-1100 ohm resistance test or has dead spots during rotation, replace the potentiometer. If the potentiometer tests good but the 8V supply is missing or the signal wire is broken, repair the wiring harness between the dial and the armrest controller.
Reassemble
Reconnect connector J206 and reassemble the armrest console.
Recalibrate
Reconnect the battery and clear the fault codes. You must perform the "Hitch Controller Calibration" procedure (often associated with code ARM 9021) so the armrest controller can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.
