TMF 19

New Holland TMF 19 – Armrest Controller: Hitch Upper Limit potentiometer has failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

The sensor responsible for monitoring the maximum upward travel limit of the rear hitch is either sending a signal outside of its normal operating range, has an open/short circuit, or has suffered a complete internal failure.

Applies to these machines

  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM Series
  • MXM Series
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • MX/TG series

Check the cause

  1. Open the armrest controller housing to access the module.

  2. Disconnect connector J2 of the second panel from the armrest controller.

  3. Measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 2 of the J2 connector. A healthy potentiometer should read between 205 to 295 ohms. If it reads completely open (infinite resistance) or shorted, the potentiometer is faulty.

  4. Reconnect connector J2 and turn the tractor's key switch to the ON position. Insert a small back-probe pin into the back side of cavities 2 and 8 of connector J2 to measure the reference voltage and signal return. If voltage is missing, you may have a wiring harness or controller issue rather than a failed potentiometer.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Disassemble the armrest console housing to access the internal control unit switches and potentiometers.

  3. Locate the Hitch Upper Limit potentiometer (usually connected via the J2 harness).

  4. Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty potentiometer.

  5. Remove the retaining nut or mounting screws holding the potentiometer to the armrest chassis/lever assembly.

  6. Install the new OEM potentiometer and secure the mounting hardware.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Reassemble the armrest console housing.

  9. Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the stored fault codes.

  10. Perform a hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's instrument cluster or Electronic Service Tool (EST) to teach the controller the new potentiometer's upper and lower limits.
