New Holland TMF 3 – TMF Controller: Hitch Raise Solenoid High Side Driver shorted to 12 volts.

The controller has detected that the high side of the electrical circuit responsible for driving the hitch raise solenoid is shorted directly to a 12-volt power source. This prevents the controller from properly regulating the solenoid, often resulting in the hitch failing to raise or operating erratically.

   Check battery voltage to ensure it is within the normal operating range, as voltage spikes or drops can trigger false solenoid codes.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the TMF controller to the hitch raise solenoid for rubbed-through insulation or pinched wires that could be shorting the circuit to a 12V power source.

   Disconnect the hitch controller connector (C058) and inspect cavities 1 and 2 to ensure they are not damaged, corroded, or improperly seated. Measure the resistance between these cavities to check the health of the solenoid and wiring.

   Perform a jumper wire test by installing a temporary jumper directly from the controller connector to the hitch raise coil. If the hitch raises correctly, the original wiring harness has a short. If it still does not raise, the issue is likely a failed solenoid coil or a stuck hydraulic valve.

   Depressurize the System

   Lower the hitch completely to the ground and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system for safety.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical surges or accidental shorts during the repair.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the hitch control valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the specific hitch raise solenoid.

   Remove the Faulty Coil

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Unbolt and slide the electromagnetic solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve body.

   Clean and Inspect

   Clean the mounting surface on the valve body. Check the electrical connector contacts for corrosion or moisture and clean if necessary.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve body and secure it.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid and reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Test and Calibrate

   Start the tractor and test the hitch operation. Depending on the model, you may need to navigate to the tractor's display monitor to perform a routine Hitch Calibration procedure so the TMF controller can relearn the valve's threshold limits.
