TMF 30

New Holland TMF 30 – TMF (Tractor Management Framework): Right Draft Pin voltage is outside the normal operating range.

Issue description

The draft pins are load-sensing pins located at the lower link arms of the rear 3-point hitch. They measure the pulling force (draft load) exerted by an implement. The controller monitors a specific voltage range from these sensors (typically operating on a 5V reference). If the voltage signal from the right-hand pin drops too low, spikes too high, or becomes erratic, the system logs this code and will usually disable draft control functionality.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the right draft pin for physical damage, corrosion, or pulled wires.

  2. Ground Check: Verify the main chassis and cab ground straps are clean and tight, as bad grounds can cause intermittent EDC faults.

  3. Voltage Test: Using a multimeter, check the connector for the 5V reference signal and a solid ground.

  4. Diagnostic 'H' Routine: Navigate to the draft control sensor channels in the onboard diagnostic menus to view the live voltage reading of the right draft pin.

  5. Swap Test: Temporarily swap the left and right draft pin electrical connectors. If the fault code changes to TMF 31, the sensor is internally failed. If it remains TMF 30, the issue is in the wiring harness or the EDC controller.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the 3-point hitch completely to remove all load from the lower link arms, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the right draft pin sensor.

  3. Extract the Pin

    Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt, keeper plate, or snap ring) securing the draft pin to the tractor chassis and lower link arm. Support the heavy lower link arm and slide the faulty draft pin out.

  4. Installation

    Clean the mounting bore thoroughly. Apply a light coat of anti-seize or grease to the smooth barrel of the new draft pin (do not grease the electrical connector) and slide it into place.

  5. Secure and Reconnect

    Reinstall the retaining hardware and plug the electrical connector back in. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

    Crucial Step. You must perform the Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration routine via the tractor's display or diagnostic menu. The EDC controller needs to learn the new sensor's 'zero-load' offset voltage to function correctly.
