TMF 44

New Holland TMF 44 – Armrest Controller or Hitch Controller (Electronic Draft Control / EDC module): Hitch calibration aborted due to tractor movement.

Issue description

This code triggers when the tractor's electronic systems detect that the vehicle is moving (via wheel speed or transmission output speed sensors) while the operator or technician is attempting to calibrate the rear hitch. Hitch calibration requires the tractor to be completely stationary.

Applies to these machines

  • T8010
  • T8020
  • T8030
  • T8040
  • T8 Series
  • T9 Series
  • TG Series
  • TG215
  • TG245
  • TM Series
  • MXM Series
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • MX/TG series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the tractor is parked on a flat, level surface and is completely stationary

  2. Ensure the parking brake is fully engaged so the tractor cannot roll or shift during the calibration process

  3. Use a diagnostic tool to monitor live data from the transmission output speed sensor and the wheel speed sensors for erratic 'ghost' signals or voltage spikes

  4. Inspect wiring harnesses leading to the speed sensors for chafing, shorts to ground, or water intrusion

Repair steps

  1. Halt Calibration

Stop the current hitch calibration procedure.

  2. Secure the Tractor

Bring the tractor to a complete stop, apply the parking brake, and ensure the engine speed is set correctly (some related hitch calibration steps require engine speed above 1600 RPM).

  3. Retry Calibration

Clear the fault code and re-attempt the hitch calibration procedure while ensuring the tractor does not roll.

  4. Locate faulty sensor

If diagnostic checks reveal that a speed sensor is sending a false movement signal while the tractor is parked, locate the faulty transmission speed sensor or wheel speed sensor.

  5. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty sensor.

  6. Remove sensor

Remove the sensor retaining bolt and pull the sensor from the transmission housing or wheel hub.

  7. Install new sensor

Install the new OEM sensor, torque to spec, and reconnect the harness.

  8. Clear code and calibrate

Clear the TMF 44 code and successfully complete the hitch calibration.
