New Holland TMF 51 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller: Lower Valve calibration value is too high. (valve problem)
Issue description
During the hitch calibration process, the PWM electrical threshold required to start lowering the hitch exceeds the programmed limit (typically 55%). The fault is triggered when the controller commands the valve to open, but does not detect any corresponding hitch movement (via the position potentiometer) by the time the threshold limit is reached.

Check the cause
Check for mechanical restrictions or binding in the hitch linkage that could physically prevent the hitch from moving when commanded.
Use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance of the hitch lower solenoid coil. The fault will trigger if the coil resistance is too high.
Inspect the wiring between the hitch lower solenoid and the TMF hitch controller for opens, shorts, or high resistance.
Verify that the tractor's battery voltage is not very low, as low voltage can prevent the solenoid from actuating properly.
Verify that the hitch position potentiometer is functioning correctly, as the controller relies on this sensor to verify that movement has occurred.
Repair steps
Ensure the tractor is parked safely, the engine is off, and the key is removed.
Lower the three-point hitch completely to relieve hydraulic pressure.
Test the battery to ensure it is providing adequate voltage to the system.
Inspect the physical hitch linkage for debris, lack of lubrication, or damage.
Clear any obstructions and lubricate pivot points.
Locate the hitch lower valve solenoid on the hydraulic control valve block.
Disconnect the wiring harness to the solenoid and inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage.
Test the solenoid coil with a multimeter.
If the resistance is out of specification (too high or open), the solenoid has failed and must be replaced.
If replacing the solenoid, unthread the faulty solenoid from the valve block and install the replacement part.
Reconnect the wiring harness.
Clear the fault codes from the TMF controller and perform the Hitch Calibration procedure.
This ensures the new valve operates within the correct PWM threshold.
