TMF 55

New Holland TMF 55 – TMF Controller: Hitch position range from top to bottom is not within spec during calibration.

Issue description

During the automated hitch calibration procedure, the detected physical travel distance falls outside the expected factory specifications, indicating the hitch is physically blocked or the electronic position sensor is failing.

Applies to these machines

  • T8000 Series
  • T8010
  • T8020
  • T8030
  • T8040
  • TG Series
  • TG215
  • TG275
  • TG305
  • TM Series
  • TN Series
  • T5 Series
  • T6 Series
  • T7 Series
  • Magnum
  • MX Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Check for physical interference ensuring the hitch is completely free to move between minimum and maximum limits without bottoming out.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the hitch position sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  3. Test the hitch position sensor (potentiometer) for a smooth voltage sweep to ensure there are no dead spots.

Repair steps

  1. Clear Obstructions

Remove any implements, drawbar pins, or debris that might be physically restricting the full upward or downward travel of the 3-point hitch.

  2. Repair Wiring/Sensors

Repair any damaged wiring harnesses. If the position sensor is faulty, unbolt it from the hydraulic lift cover area, disconnect it from the tractor's wiring harness, and install a replacement sensor.

  3. Access Calibration Menu

Enter the tractor's cab and access the programmable display on the standard monitor or armrest controller. Navigate to the 'Hitch Setup / Main Menu'.

  4. Run Hitch Calibration

Initiate the Hitch Calibration procedure. Ensure all calibration prerequisites are met (e.g., the engine must be running, and the tractor must remain stationary).

  5. Verify

Allow the system to automatically raise and lower the hitch to learn its new limits. Verify that the calibration completes successfully without returning TMF 55, TMF 50 (top of travel out of spec), or TMF 54 (bottom of travel out of spec).
