New Holland TMF 56 – TMF: Hitch position range to position command range ratio is not within spec during calibration

During hitch calibration, the physical movement of the hitch (measured by the rockshaft position sensor) does not match the expected electrical signal range or the commanded input. The electrical feedback from the sensor is either too small, too large, or erratic compared to the physical travel limits.

   Ensure the rear hitch is not physically restricted from moving through its full range of travel and remove any heavy implements.

   Inspect the mechanical linkage connecting the rockshaft to the hitch position sensor for bent rods, loose brackets, or binding.

   Check the hitch position sensor (potentiometer) for a smooth voltage sweep to identify any dead spots or out-of-range resistance.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the TMF controller and the hitch position sensor for shorts, chafing, or open circuits.

   Clear the Area

   Ensure the rear hitch area is clear and the tractor is parked on level ground with the engine running (calibration requires hydraulic pressure and engine speed signals).

   Adjust/Repair Linkage

   If the mechanical linkage connecting the rockshaft to the sensor is loose or damaged, repair or adjust it so the sensor can accurately read the physical movement of the hitch.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the linkage is intact but the sensor fails a voltage/resistance sweep test, replace the hitch position sensor (rockshaft potentiometer).

   Recalibrate the Hitch

   After adjusting the linkage or replacing the sensor, you must perform the Hitch Calibration procedure again.

   Store Calibrations

   Once the calibration display signifies completion, key off the tractor to store the new calibration values in the TMF controller.
