TMF 58

New Holland TMF 58 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller: Left Draft Pin voltage is not within spec for ‘no load’ condition during calibration.

Issue description

The load sensor (draft pin) on the left lower link of the 3-point hitch is sending a voltage signal that falls outside the expected baseline parameters when the system assumes there is no implement attached.

Check the cause

  1. Verify "No Load" Condition: Ensure there is absolutely no implement, quick-hitch, or heavy weight attached to the 3-point hitch. The system must be completely unloaded to find its true zero-point during calibration.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the left draft pin sensor wiring harness and connector for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Check Ground Connections: Poor cab or chassis grounds are a known cause of erratic draft pin voltage readings on New Holland tractors. Inspect and clean the main ground straps.

  4. Verify Reference Voltage: Check the 8-volt reference voltage supplied by the controller to the sensor. (Note: If the reference voltage is faulty, you will usually also see codes TMF 63 or TMF 64).

  5. Check Live Sensor Data: If you have access to the tractor's "H" routine diagnostic menu (e.g., Channel 35 for the Left Draft Pin), check the live value. A healthy pin under no load should display a specific baseline value (often around 48 depending on the model year).

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the 3-point hitch completely, and turn off the engine.

  2. Disconnect attachments

    Disconnect any implement or attachments from the lower links to ensure a true 'no load' state.

  3. Clean and grease connector

    Disconnect the left draft pin sensor harness. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and attempt to clear the code/recalibrate.

  4. Evaluate sensor replacement

    If the code persists and wiring/grounds test good, the left draft pin sensor has failed internally (often failing low/open) and must be replaced.

  5. Remove faulty sensor

    Support the left lower lift arm, remove the retaining hardware for the left draft pin, and slide the faulty draft pin sensor out.

  6. Install new sensor

    Install the new OEM draft pin sensor and reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Calibrate hitch controller

    Perform the Hitch Controller Calibration procedure. Note: Replacing the pin or clearing this code will almost always trigger fault code TMF 61 ("The Hitch Calibration procedure must be performed"), meaning the EDC system will not function until the new pin is calibrated to the TMF module.
