TMF 6

New Holland TMF 6 – Tractor Multifunction Controller (TMF): Hitch Lower Solenoid High Side Driver circuit short to 12 volts

Issue description

The electronic driver circuit that supplies power to the solenoid responsible for lowering the rear hitch is detecting an unintended connection to a 12-volt power source, preventing the system from operating the hitch safely.

Applies to these machines

  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG255
  • TG275
  • TG285
  • T8010
  • T8020
  • T8030
  • T8040
  • T8050
  • T7030
  • T7040
  • T7050
  • T7060
  • TM155

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the TMF module to the rear hitch lower solenoid for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas where the wire might be rubbing against a 12V power source or the chassis.

  2. Inspect the 2-pole female connector at the rear hitch lower solenoid and Connector 54M at the TMF module for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit to a 12V pin.

  3. Disconnect the harness from both the TMF module and the hitch lower solenoid, then test the high-side driver circuit wire for continuity to the battery positive (12V) to check for a short in the harness.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Isolate the Short

If the multimeter test reveals a short to 12V in the wiring harness, trace the harness to locate the damage.

  3. Repair Wiring

Splice and repair the damaged section of the wire using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Test the Solenoid

If the wiring harness tests good (no short to 12V), test the hitch lower solenoid itself for an internal short. If the solenoid is internally shorted, replace the solenoid.

  5. Replace the TMF Module

If both the wiring harness and the solenoid are in good working order, the high-side driver inside the TMF module has likely failed internally. You will need to replace the Tractor Multifunction Controller (TMF) and have it calibrated/programmed by a dealer.

  6. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and perform a hitch calibration procedure to ensure the new components are recognized and functioning properly.
