New Holland TMF 62 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function Controller): Communications Lost with Performance Monitor Function
Issue description
A breakdown in the CAN bus communication network between the tractor's multifunction controller and the performance monitor display/instrument cluster.

Check the cause
Verify Power and Ground: Ensure both the TMF controller and the Performance Monitor/Instrument Controller are receiving proper voltage and have solid ground connections.
Inspect the CAN Bus Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness connecting the TMF controller to the Performance Monitor for any signs of chafing, breaks, or short circuits.
Check Connectors and Pins: Disconnect the harnesses at both the TMF controller and the Performance Monitor. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage. Ensure the pins are seated tightly and not pushed back into the connector housing.
Test CAN Bus Resistance: Use a digital multimeter to check the resistance of the CAN bus circuit to ensure the terminating resistors are intact and there are no open circuits.
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the battery before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits.
Repair Wiring/Connectors
If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring or corroded connector pins, repair or replace the affected sections of the harness or the specific connectors (e.g., the 6-pin male electrical connector on the TMF controller).
Replace Faulty Module
If the wiring and connectors test good, the fault likely lies within one of the modules. Depending on further CAN bus diagnostics, replace either the TMF Controller or the Performance Monitor.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
After repairing the wiring or replacing a module, reconnect the battery, clear the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the system, and perform any necessary calibrations (such as hitch calibration, which is often related to TMF functions).
