New Holland TMF 7 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller: Hitch Raise/Lower Solenoids Open or short to ground
Issue description
Indicates a failure in the electrical circuit controlling the solenoid valves that raise and lower the rear 3-point hitch. The controller is detecting that the circuit is either physically broken (open circuit) or that the wiring/solenoid is shorting out to the chassis ground.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- T5 series (T5040, T5050, T5060, T5070)
- T6 series (T6010-T6080)
- T7 series
- T8 series (T8010, T8020, T8030, T8040, T8050)
- TG series (TG215, TG275)
- TM/MXM series
Check the cause
Locate the hitch valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the raise and lower solenoids.
Visually inspect the wiring harness and the 2-pin female electrical connectors leading to the solenoids for corrosion, broken wires, or loose connections.
Use a multimeter to test the wiring between the TMF controller and the solenoids for continuity. Check for any shorts to ground along the harness.
Test the internal resistance of the hitch raise and lower solenoids to determine if the coil inside the solenoid has failed open or shorted.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the hitch (if possible) or mechanically support it, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Fault
Based on your multimeter tests, isolate whether the fault is in the wiring harness or the solenoid itself.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the harness is chafed or shorting to the frame, repair the damaged section of the wire and replace the 2-pin connector if it is corroded or melted.
Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)
If the solenoid fails the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/clip holding the solenoid coil to the hitch valve block stem. Slide the old solenoid off and install the replacement.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the 2-pin electrical connector, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes from the TMF controller. Test the hitch raise and lower functions to ensure the code does not return.
