New Holland TMF 93 – TMF (Tractor Management Function / Transmission Controller): MFD Switch is failed in the Armrest Controller

The system is detecting an invalid electrical state where both auto MFD and MFD on switches are active simultaneously. Because the Mechanical Front Drive (MFD) cannot be in 'Auto' and manually 'On' at the exact same time, the controller flags this as a hardware failure, typically caused by an internally shorted switch, a wiring short, or a fault on the armrest controller circuit board.

   Check the MFD switch on the right-hand armrest console to see if the rocker is physically broken, sticking, or jammed between positions.

   Access the back of the switch and test it with a multimeter to verify if the switch is internally shorted (sending voltage on both the Auto MFD and MFD On signal pins simultaneously).

   Inspect the wiring harness inside the armrest for chafing, pinched wires, or shorts to ground/power between the switch and the Armrest Controller board.

   If the switch and wiring test fine, check the Armrest Controller itself. On older models, check for broken solder joints where the CAN bus terminators connect to the board.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor key and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage while working on the CAN-BUS modules.

   Access the Armrest Console

   Remove the retaining screws (e.g., self-tapping #8 screws) and lift the cover assembly of the right-hand console/armrest to access the secondary control panel switches.

   Remove the Switch

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the MFD switch. Depress the retaining tabs on the switch body and push it up through the armrest bezel.

   Install the Replacement

   Snap the new OEM MFD switch into the armrest plate and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Address Controller (If Applicable)

   If diagnostics pointed to the armrest controller board rather than the switch, repair the broken solder joints on the board or replace the Armrest Controller assembly entirely.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall the armrest cover assembly. Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the tractor's diagnostic display or a service tool to clear the TMF 93 fault code. Test the MFD system in both 'Auto' and 'On' modes to verify proper engagement.
