New Holland TMF 96 – TMF: The steering angle sensor is below the expected operating range

The signal voltage coming from the steering angle sensor has dropped below the minimum normal operating threshold. This condition prevents the auto-guidance (IntelliSteer) and differential lock systems from accurately determining the front wheels' position.

   Inspect the steering angle sensor physically (located on the front steering axle) to ensure the mechanical linkage is not bent, broken, or misaligned

   Check the sensor's electrical connector for dirt, moisture, or corrosion, which can cause voltage drops

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the sensor to the TMF/Armrest controller for open circuits, chafing, or a short to ground

   Use a multimeter or the tractor's diagnostic display to monitor the sensor's output voltage while turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock. Verify if the voltage drops below the minimum limit or has dead spots

   Attempt to clear the fault code via the display monitor to see if the error is an intermittent glitch

   Park the tractor on a level surface, center the steering, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the steering angle sensor assembly on the front axle steering cylinder or linkage.

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor.

   Unbolt the sensor housing and carefully detach it from the steering linkage.

   Install the new OEM steering angle sensor in the exact same orientation and tighten the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.

   Power on the tractor and use the in-cab display monitor (or an electronic service tool) to perform a steering angle sensor calibration.

   This step is mandatory so the TMF controller learns the new sensor's center, left-lock, and right-lock voltage values.

   Clear the TMF 96 fault code from the system menu and test drive the tractor to verify the auto-steer and differential lock functions operate normally.
