New Holland TRANS 107 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS / TCU): C5-6 clutch solenoid or its wiring failed open or shorted to ground

The transmission controller has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit responsible for actuating the C5-6 transmission clutch. The system is seeing either an "open" (a broken wire, disconnected plug, or burnt-out solenoid coil) or a "short to ground" (a bare wire touching the chassis or an internal short inside the solenoid).

   Visually inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the C5-6 clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect the C5-6 solenoid connector and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the C5-6 clutch solenoid. An infinite (OL) reading indicates the coil has failed open, while near zero ohms to the housing indicates a short to ground.

   With the solenoid and Transmission Controller disconnected, test the C5-6 signal wire for continuity to ground to determine if the wiring harness is shorted to the chassis.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (usually mounted on the side of the transmission housing). Identify the C5-6 clutch solenoid (refer to the specific model's service manual diagram for exact valve block positioning).

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the C5-6 solenoid. Clean the area around the base of the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission valve body. Remove the retaining bolts or snap ring holding the solenoid in place.

   Extraction

   Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the valve block. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid may leak out.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new C5-6 clutch solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Start the tractor and clear the stored TRANS 107 fault code. Depending on the tractor model, you may need to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure via the in-cab display so the controller can learn the fill times for the new C5-6 solenoid.
