New Holland TRANS 108 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Master clutch solenoid or its wiring failed open or shorted to ground.

This indicates that the transmission controller has detected an electrical fault (either an open circuit or a short to ground) in the circuit responsible for operating the master clutch solenoid.

   Locate the Transmission Controller behind the rear cab panel between the fenders (under a rubber cover).

   Test the circuit resistance by disconnecting connectors C353 and C350 from the transmission controller. Measure resistance between the wire in cavity 4 of connector C353 and cavity 5 of connector C350 (should be approximately 10 ohms).

   Check for a short to ground by measuring the resistance between cavity 5 of connector C350 and the chassis ground. If resistance is less than a few ohms, there is a short to ground in the wiring harness.

   If the harness tests fine but circuit resistance is out of spec, test the solenoid directly. Disconnect the master clutch solenoid (located on the left side of the transmission) and measure resistance across the pins. It should read approximately 10 ohms. An open reading indicates a failed coil.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Solenoid

   Locate the master clutch solenoid on the left side of the transmission valve block, just behind the cab steps.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the master clutch solenoid. Remove the solenoid retaining nut. Carefully extract the solenoid coil and cartridge valve from the transmission block.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Insert the new master clutch solenoid cartridge into the valve block. Important Torque Specs: Do not over-torque the components. Torque the cartridge to approximately 18 ft-lbs, and tighten the solenoid retaining nut to 5-6 ft-lbs.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Plug the wiring harness back into the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   After replacing transmission solenoids, it is highly recommended to perform a transmission/clutch calibration procedure using the tractor's display or diagnostic tool to ensure smooth shifting.
