New Holland TRANS 11 – Transmission Controller / TCU: Master Clutch Potentiometer Open Circuit or short to ground

The control module is not receiving a valid electrical signal from the clutch pedal position sensor (potentiometer), either because the circuit is broken (open) or the wiring is shorting out against the chassis (ground).

   Visually inspect the master clutch potentiometer (on the clutch pedal assembly) and its wiring harness for physical damage, broken wires, or chafing against the chassis.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose terminals.

   Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the transmission controller harness. Verify that there is no short to ground on the signal wire.

   On supported models, enter the 'H9' diagnostic menu (Volt Meter mode) on the transmission display to view live voltage readings from the transmission control module inputs to isolate whether the fault is in the sensor or the wiring.

   Power off and disconnect battery

   Power off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate potentiometer

   Locate the master clutch potentiometer on the clutch pedal linkage.

   Unplug harness

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove faulty potentiometer

   Remove the mounting hardware and detach the faulty potentiometer.

   Install new potentiometer

   Install the new potentiometer and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness and battery

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.

   Perform transmission clutch calibration

   You must perform a transmission clutch calibration. Because the new sensor will have a slightly different baseline voltage than the old one, the TCU will not know the exact engagement points of the pedal.

   Execute calibration process

   Warm the transmission oil to operating temperature (typically around 60°C). Enter the tractor's calibration mode and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate clutches A, B, C, D, etc., until the system displays 'End' or 'CF' (Calibration Finished).
