New Holland TRANS 111 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): High range clutch solenoid or its wiring failed open or shorted to ground

The transmission controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit (open) or a wire that is improperly touching the chassis ground (shorted to ground), preventing the high range clutch solenoid from operating correctly.

   Check Solenoid Resistance: Disconnect the high range clutch solenoid and measure its resistance using a multimeter. A healthy solenoid should typically read between 8 and 11 Ohms.

   Check Wiring Continuity: If the solenoid resistance is within spec, check the wiring harness between the transmission controller (CCU) and the solenoid. Look for broken wires (open circuit) or rubbed insulation causing a short to the tractor's frame (ground).

   Check for Short to Power: With the ignition ON and the CCU connectors disconnected, measure the voltage between the solenoid signal wire and ground to ensure it isn't shorted to a positive voltage source.

   Access the Transmission Valve Block

   Locate the transmission control valve block where the clutch solenoids are mounted (often on the side of the powershift transmission housing).

   Inspect the Harness

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the high range clutch solenoid for obvious signs of chafing, rodent damage, or melted insulation. Repair any damaged wiring or replace the harness section if necessary.

   Replace the Solenoid (if faulty)

   If the wiring tests good but the solenoid failed the resistance test (not between 8-11 Ohms), remove the retaining bolt/clip holding the high range clutch solenoid in the valve block.

   Install New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid, insert it into the valve block, and secure it.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the TRANS 111 fault code using the tractor's diagnostic menu, and perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure the controller learns the engagement point of the new solenoid.
