New Holland TRANS 117 – Transmission Control Module (TCU / TRANS): C3-4 clutch solenoid coil or its wiring shorted to power

The controller has detected an electrical short to a +12V power source on the circuit responsible for operating the C3-4 transmission clutch solenoid. The issue is either an internal short within the solenoid coil itself or a wiring harness fault where the control wire is making contact with a live power wire.

   Visually inspect the transmission wiring harness routing from the Transmission Control Module to the transmission control valve block for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the C3-4 clutch solenoid and probe the harness connector with a multimeter (key ON, solenoid OFF) to check for +12V.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the C3-4 clutch solenoid coil to check for an internal short (near zero ohms).

   Inspect the pins at both the solenoid connector and the transmission controller for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the transmission control valve block.

   Typically mounted on the side or top of the transmission housing, depending on the model.

   Identify the specific C3-4 clutch solenoid on the valve block.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the C3-4 solenoid.

   If the fault is in the wiring, repair or replace the damaged harness section.

   Repair the shorted section of the wiring harness using proper soldering and heat-shrink techniques, or replace the damaged harness section.

   If the fault is the solenoid, remove the retaining nut or fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge stem.

   Slide the faulty coil off the valve stem and install the new replacement coil.

   Note: In some cases, the entire proportional solenoid valve assembly may need to be unscrewed and replaced if the cartridge is damaged.

   Reconnect the electrical connector securely.

   Clear the fault codes from the transmission controller and test operate the tractor through its gears.

   Ensure the C3-4 clutch engages properly and the code does not return.
