New Holland TRANS 123 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Reverse clutch solenoid coil or its wiring is shorted to power
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting +12 Volts (current sensed while the driver is off) on the reverse clutch solenoid circuit, indicating an electrical short either within the solenoid coil itself or in the wiring harness supplying it.

Check the cause
Ensure the tractor is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged so the machine cannot move unexpectedly during testing.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller (CCM) to the reverse clutch solenoid for chafed, melted, or pinched wires that could be shorting to a +12V power source.
Disconnect the reverse clutch solenoid connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
Using a multimeter, check the wiring harness for continuity to power.
Test the solenoid coil itself for an internal short by measuring its resistance and comparing it to OEM specifications.
Verify if the reverse clutch solenoid is improperly energized when the fault acts up (current sensed while the driver is off).
Repair steps
Disconnect the battery
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent any electrical damage during the repair.
Locate the reverse clutch solenoid
Locate the reverse clutch solenoid, which is typically mounted on the transmission valve mounting plate on the side of the speed transmission housing.
Disconnect the electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the reverse clutch solenoid.
Repair or replace wiring harness
If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring issue, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Remove the retaining nut
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem.
Remove the faulty solenoid coil
Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.
Install the new solenoid coil
Install the new replacement solenoid coil and secure it with the retaining nut (do not overtighten).
Reconnect the electrical connector
Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid.
Reconnect battery and clear codes
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the stored fault codes.
Perform transmission clutch calibration
Perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (as required by the service manual after replacing transmission electrical components) to ensure smooth engagement.
