New Holland TRANS 124 – TRANS: Creeper clutch solenoid coil or its wiring shorted to power
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting an unexpected high voltage (12V) on the circuit responsible for actuating the creeper gear clutch solenoid, pointing to an electrical short.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the transmission controller to the creeper clutch solenoid valve for chafed, melted, or pinched wires that could contact a 12V source.
Disconnect the harness at the creeper clutch solenoid and at the transmission controller to check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins bridging the power and signal circuits.
Perform a harness voltage test: With the solenoid disconnected and the key ON, use a multimeter to check the signal wire on the harness side. If it reads 12V when uncommanded, the wiring harness is shorted to power.
Perform a coil resistance test: Measure the resistance across the pins of the creeper clutch solenoid coil. A reading near zero ohms indicates an internal short in the coil.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Component
Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the specific solenoid designated for the creeper clutch.
Address Wiring Issues
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the harness, trace the wire back to the TRANS module. Splice and repair the damaged section of the wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, disconnect its electrical connector. Unbolt or unthread the creeper clutch solenoid valve from the hydraulic control valve block.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission/hydraulic fluid. Carefully insert the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.
Testing
Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard display to clear the TRANS 124 fault code. Engage the creeper gear to verify smooth operation and ensure the code does not return.
