TRANS 133

New Holland TRANS 133 – Transmission Control Module (TCU / TRANS): Reverse clutch is not calibrated.

Issue description

This code indicates that the transmission control module lacks valid calibration data for the reverse clutch. This typically occurs if a previous calibration procedure was interrupted, the battery voltage dropped too low, the transmission control module lost its memory, or if internal transmission/clutch components were recently replaced and not relearned by the system.

Applies to these machines

  • TM Series (TM120 - TM190)
  • TG Series (TG210, TG230, TG255, TG285, TG305)
  • TJ Series
  • T9000 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T6 Series
  • MXM Series
  • TH Series (TH7.42, TH9.35)
  • LM Series (LM9.35)

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the battery is fully charged (Code 70 can trigger alongside this code and prevent calibration)

  2. Check the clutch pedal bottom switch adjustment (misadjustment, often Code 47, will fail calibration)

  3. Verify transmission fluid temperature is warmed up to operating temperature (approx. 60°C / 140°F) to avoid a 'CL' (Cold) error

  4. Verify that the transmission hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the transmission oil filter is clean

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on level ground away from obstacles. Apply the handbrake firmly. Ensure the engine is off and the shuttle lever is in Neutral.

  2. Enter Calibration Mode

Press and hold both the upshift and downshift buttons on the gear lever simultaneously, then start the engine.

  3. Verify Temperature

The digital gear display will show the transmission oil temperature. If it is at the correct temperature, proceed.

  4. Set RPM

Increase the hand throttle to set the engine speed to 1200 RPM (+/- 50 RPM).

  5. Engage Shuttle

Move the forward/reverse shuttle lever into the FORWARD position. (Safety note: The tractor will not drive while in calibration mode).

  6. Select the Clutch

Use the upshift button to toggle through the clutches until you reach the reverse clutch (or start from Clutch A and do a full calibration).

  7. Calibrate

Press and hold the downshift button. The display will show a number counting up. Keep holding the button. You will feel the tractor slightly load up and the engine RPM will drop by about 50 RPM as the clutch engages.

  8. Store Value

Continue holding until the calibration value flashes alternately with the clutch letter. Release the button.

  9. Finish

Once all required clutches are calibrated, the display will show 'CF' (Calibration Finished) or 'END'. Turn the ignition key OFF to store the new calibration figures in the module's memory.

  10. Inspect components if calibration fails

If the calibration repeatedly fails on the reverse clutch, physically inspect the reverse clutch solenoid valve, the wiring harness to the transmission, and perform a hydraulic pressure test on the reverse clutch circuit.
