New Holland TRANS 138 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Front Suspension raise solenoid circuit is shorted or open circuit

The controller has detected an electrical fault—either a broken wire (open circuit), a short to ground, or an internal failure of the solenoid coil itself—preventing the system from commanding the front suspension to raise.

   Inspect the raising solenoid connector (C251) and main front suspension harness connector (C248) for backed out, bent, or corroded pins.

   Test the wiring harness for continuity between the solenoid connector and the central controller (XCM/EMU) to check for an open break or short to ground.

   Measure the resistance of the front suspension raise solenoid coil (infinite or near zero indicates internal failure).

   Verify hydraulic lift and remote valves are functioning to rule out a general high-pressure hydraulic circuit failure.

   Inspect the front suspension linkage and cylinders for mechanical binding or damage.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve Block

   Locate the front suspension control valve block (typically mounted near the front axle suspension assembly). Identify the specific 'raise' solenoid.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires or a faulty connector (C251/C248), splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the damaged wire using heat-shrink connectors.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off and install the replacement. (If the valve cartridge itself is stuck, the hydraulic system must be depressurized before unscrewing the cartridge from the block).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the solenoid electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic menu (H-Menu) to clear the TRANS 138 fault code.

   Auto-Calibration

   Run the front suspension auto-calibration procedure. The system must relearn the minimum and maximum travel positions after suspension components or sensors are serviced.
