New Holland TRANS 140 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Front suspension position is above the expected absolute limit.

The transmission controller continuously monitors the front axle position potentiometer circuit. If the controller detects that the sensor voltage is above 4.74 Volts, it determines that the suspension has exceeded its maximum calibrated travel limit and logs fault code TRANS 140.

   Verify if the front suspension position is actually above the absolute limit due to improper ballasting or an overly heavy implement.

   Inspect the front axle position sensor linkage for mechanical damage, bent linkage, or debris blockages.

   Check the sensor wiring harness for a short to power on the signal wire (which causes voltage to spike above 4.74V).

   Inspect the male and female pins in the sensor connectors and the transmission controller harness (specifically cavity 15 of connector C355) for loose, bent, or corroded pins.

   Disconnect the lower suspension solenoid (if applicable) and measure resistance between pin 1 and pin 2. It should be around 10 ohms; replace if close to 0 or dramatically higher.

   Park the tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, and turn off the engine.

   Inspect the sensor and linkage

   Inspect the front axle position sensor and its connecting linkage rod.

   Repair or replace linkage

   If the linkage is bent or disconnected, repair or replace the linkage rod.

   Test wiring for shorts

   If the linkage is intact, disconnect the sensor harness and use a multimeter to test the circuit for shorts to power. Repair the wiring harness if a short is found.

   Identify faulty sensor

   If the wiring and linkage are both in good condition, the front axle position sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Unbolt the faulty sensor from its mounting bracket and disconnect it from the linkage.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new front axle position sensor and reconnect the linkage and wiring harness.

   Perform calibration

   After replacing the sensor or linkage, perform a Front Suspension Calibration using the tractor's diagnostic menu or a dealer service tool to allow the Transmission Controller to learn the new sensor's travel range.
