TRANS 141

New Holland TRANS 141 – TRANS: Front suspension position is below the expected absolute limit

Issue description

The sensor monitoring the front axle's suspension travel is sending a signal (voltage/resistance) that falls below the minimum programmed threshold. This can be caused by the suspension physically failing to raise, a damaged wiring harness, or a failed position sensor (potentiometer).

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front axle position sensor for torn, ripped, or shorted wires.

  2. Verify that the tractor has adequate hydraulic pressure to raise the suspension (if codes TRANS 146 or TRANS 147 are also present, the issue is likely hydraulic rather than electrical).

  3. Use a multimeter to check the voltage of the front suspension position potentiometer to see if it is out of range (shorted high or low).

  4. Check for code TRANS 142 (Front suspension travel range has not been calibrated). If present, the system may simply need to be recalibrated.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Find the front suspension position sensor (potentiometer) mounted on the front axle linkage.

  2. Disconnect and Remove

Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the mounting bolts and disconnect the linkage ball stud connecting the sensor to the axle.

  3. Install the New Sensor

Mount the new potentiometer, reattach the linkage ball stud, and plug in the electrical connector.

  4. Perform Calibration

Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to perform a Front Suspension Calibration. This teaches the TRANS module the new upper and lower travel limits.

  5. Test Operation

Use the manual suspension switch in the cab to command the suspension to raise and lower, ensuring the green suspension light activates and no codes return.
