TRANS 2047

New Holland TRANS 2047 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Clutch pedal bottom of clutch switch is misadjusted

Issue description

The switch that detects when the clutch pedal is fully depressed is sending a signal to the controller at the wrong point in the pedal's stroke, or the mechanical linkage has worn/shifted, causing the switch to actuate outside of its calibrated parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7 Series (T7.210, T7.220, T7.270)
  • New Holland T8 Series (T8.325)
  • New Holland T4 Series (T4050)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of the clutch pedal linkage for excessive wear in the clevis or pivot points

  2. Check for a weak clutch pedal return spring that might prevent the pedal from returning fully

  3. Verify that the mounting bracket for the bottom-of-clutch (BOC) switch has not been bent or vibrated loose

  4. Ensure there are no short or open circuits in the switch wiring (look for companion codes TRANS 2037 or TRANS 2048)

  5. Use on-board diagnostics (H9 menu) to test voltage on transmission inputs to isolate electrical faults

  6. Use on-board diagnostics (HA menu) to view clutch pedal position and safety switch setting in real-time while manually depressing the pedal

Repair steps

  1. Adjust Pedal Height

Locate the jam nut and adjusting screw positioned just forward of the clutch pedal pivot (above the safety switch). Adjust this screw to set the proper resting pedal height.

  2. Adjust Pedal Travel

Adjust the clevis in the linkage next to the pedal to compensate for any mechanical wear and ensure the pedal has the correct total travel distance (e.g., some manuals specify a main clutch pedal travel of 148 - 152 mm, depending on the exact model).

  3. Adjust the Switch

Adjust the physical position of the bottom-of-clutch switch so that it is only actuated when the pedal reaches the very bottom of its travel. Tighten all lock nuts on the linkage and switch bracket.

  4. Recalibrate the Clutch

Because the mechanical limits have been changed, you must perform a clutch pedal calibration so the Transmission Control Unit learns the new upper and lower limits. Enter the tractor's transmission calibration mode (often accessed via the HH or HA menu) and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the clutch pedal potentiometers and switches.

  5. Test

Cycle the key, restart the tractor, and test drive to ensure the transmission engages smoothly and the TRANS 2047 code does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Clutch Pedal Bottom Switch (Mechanical)

    84229069

Sends an electrical signal to the tractor's control system when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

  • Clutch Pedal Return Spring

    48068693

Replaced if the pedal is sagging and causing inaccurate switch actuation.
