New Holland TRANS 2073 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / ATC / TRANS): Reverse switch input from the FNRP Pod is shorted to ground or open circuit.
Issue description
The FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) pod is the shuttle lever assembly used by the operator to select the tractor's direction of travel. This code triggers when the transmission controller detects that the voltage from the reverse switch circuit drops too low (specifically, less than 0.7 Volts for 0.5 seconds on the controller's input pin, such as pin 22 on controller X-053).

Check the cause
Ensure the operator is not holding the shuttle lever up or between positions for too long, which can trigger illogical state or voltage faults
Shift the lever through Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park while watching the instrumentation cluster display. If the display does not register 'Reverse' but registers the others, the issue is isolated to the reverse circuit
Inspect the wiring harness running from the FNRP pod on the steering column to the transmission controller. Look for chafed wires causing a short to ground or broken wires causing an open circuit
Back-probe the transmission controller connector (e.g., pin 22 on X-053) to verify if the voltage drops below 0.7V when reverse is engaged. If voltage is correct at the switch but lost at the controller, the harness is faulty. If voltage is lost at the switch, the FNRP pod has failed internally
Repair steps
Power down and disconnect battery
Power down the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Remove steering column covers
Remove the upper and lower steering column covers (cowling) to access the base of the FNRP pod.
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the FNRP pod.
Remove securing hardware
Remove the securing bolt(s) and bracket holding the FNRP pod to the steering column.
Remove old FNRP pod
Remove the old FNRP pod assembly.
Install new FNRP pod
Install the new FNRP pod. Fitment Note: Ensure that the pod is seated correctly on the steering column. The alignment tab on the FNRP pod must fit perfectly into the slot on the steering column so that the steering wheel does not rub on or bind with the pod once fully assembled.
Secure and reconnect
Tighten the securing bolt and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reinstall covers
Reinstall the steering column covers.
Verify repair
Reconnect the battery, power on the machine, and cycle the shuttle lever to verify the transmission controller registers all positions and the TRANS 2073 code is cleared.
