TRANS 2074

New Holland TRANS 2074 – TRANS: FNR Not Park Switch low voltage fault

Issue description

The FNR (Forward/Neutral/Reverse) switch is sending a voltage signal to the controller that is below the acceptable threshold when the switch is not in the "Park" position. This typically indicates a short to ground, a broken wire (open circuit), or an internal failure of the switch itself.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series tractors
  • New Holland wheel loaders
  • New Holland backhoes

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the FNR switch (located on the steering column or joystick console) for physical damage, sticking, or excessive wear.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the FNR switch for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion that could cause a low voltage reading or a short to ground.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the voltage at the FNR switch connector to verify if the signal wire is shorted to ground.

  4. Test the switch's internal continuity across its different positions (Forward, Neutral, Reverse, Park) to determine if the switch contacts have failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the plastic steering column shrouds or the joystick console cover to gain access to the FNR switch assembly.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical wire harness connector from the back of the FNR switch.

  4. Remove the Switch

Remove the mounting screws or the retaining collar (e.g., collar part # 236521A1 on some models) holding the switch in place, and slide the switch out.

  5. Install the New Part

Insert the new FNR switch into the mounting slot and secure it with the collar or screws.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wire harness back into the new switch and reinstall the steering column covers or console panels.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes. Test the Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park functions to ensure the transmission engages correctly and the code does not return.
