New Holland TRANS 2111 – TRANS (Transmission Control Module / TCU): FNR Neutral Switch high Voltage fault

The Transmission Control Module has detected that the voltage signal from the FNR (Forward-Neutral-Reverse) neutral switch is excessively high. Specifically, the voltage of the neutral position switch exceeds 4.2 Volts for more than 0.5 seconds. This typically indicates a short to power (either 12V or the 5V reference) or an open circuit on the sensor ground.

   Physically cycle the FNR shuttle lever through Forward, Neutral, and Reverse several times to free up mechanically stuck switches inside the pod.

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the live voltage of the FNR Neutral Switch to verify if the voltage is stuck above 4.2V.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the FNR pod to the Transmission Control Module for chafed wires that might be shorting the signal wire to a 12V power source or the 5V reference wire.

   Test the ground pin at the FNR switch connector for high resistance, as an open ground circuit will cause the sensor signal to float high.

   Disconnect the FNR switch and inspect the connector for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the FNR Switch

   Remove the plastic cowling around the steering column or the armrest control panel (depending on where the FNR shuttle lever is mounted on your specific model).

   Disconnect the Switch

   Unplug the multi-pin electrical connector from the FNR switch assembly.

   Test/Repair Wiring

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to power or a bad ground in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the harness segment.

   Replace the Switch

   If the wiring tests good, the internal contacts or potentiometer of the FNR switch have failed. Unbolt the faulty FNR switch assembly and install the new OEM replacement.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical connector, reinstall the plastic cowling, and reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the TRANS 2111 code.

   Verify Repair

   Shift the tractor through Forward, Neutral, and Reverse to ensure the transmission engages properly and the code does not return.
