New Holland TRANS 2331 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCU): The transmission clutches are slipping.

The controller has detected a mismatch between the expected transmission output speed and the actual speed for the engaged gear, indicating a physical slip in the clutch packs or an invalid speed sensor reading.

   Clear the fault code and operate the tractor in all gears to see if the fault returns (fault will not occur when modulating the clutch).

   Evaluate tractor speed and engagement for abnormal noises or sluggish gear engagement.

   Verify speed signals from the transmission output speed sensor and axle speed sensor if there is no physical sign of clutch slippage.

   Inspect the corresponding clutch solenoid electrical connector for damage, correct pin position, and a tight fit.

   Test Drive & Isolate

   Engage different gears to determine exactly which clutch pack is slipping.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the transmission shifts fine but the code persists, remove and replace the transmission speed sensor or axle speed sensor, as the controller is receiving bad RPM data.

   Wiring Repair

   If the connector to the slipping clutch's solenoid is loose, corroded, or damaged, repair or replace the wiring harness and connector pins as required.

   Solenoid Replacement

   If the wiring is intact and the speed sensors are reading correctly, the clutch solenoid itself may be failing to maintain pressure. Replace the faulty clutch solenoid.

   Recalibration

   After replacing transmission components, solenoids, or sensors, perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure using the tractor's display or diagnostic tool.
