TRANS 2347

New Holland TRANS 2347 – Transmission Controller (Trans / TCU): Clutch Low Range solenoid open circuit or short to ground.

Issue description

This code indicates an electrical failure in the circuit controlling the Low Range Clutch Solenoid. The transmission controller has detected that the circuit is either broken (open circuit) or that the voltage is bleeding off to the chassis (short to ground).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller to the transmission valve block (under the cab) for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or damage.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Low Range Clutch Solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two terminals of the solenoid coil (should be 8.0 to 11.4 ohms). Infinite resistance indicates an open coil; significantly lower indicates a shorted coil.

  4. Measure for continuity between either solenoid terminal and the transmission housing (chassis ground). There should be no continuity. If continuity exists, the solenoid is shorted to ground.

  5. If the solenoid tests within specification, test the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the transmission controller for continuity and shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Secure tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

  2. Clean area

    Clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect harness

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the failed Low Range Clutch Solenoid.

  4. Remove fasteners

    Remove the retaining bolts or snap ring holding the solenoid valve in the valve block.

  5. Remove solenoid

    Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the transmission housing. Have a drain pan ready to catch residual hydraulic fluid.

  6. Lubricate O-rings

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission/hydraulic fluid.

  7. Install new solenoid

    Install the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining fasteners to OEM specifications.

  8. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Test for leaks

    Restore battery power, start the tractor, and check for hydraulic leaks.

  10. Clear fault code

    Clear the stored TRANS 2347 fault code using a diagnostic tool.

  11. Calibrate transmission

    Depending on the controller's memory, you may need to perform a transmission clutch calibration routine after replacing a clutch solenoid to ensure smooth engagement.
