TRANS 2348

Issue description

This indicates an electrical fault where the controller has detected that the circuit supplying power or ground to the Mid Range clutch solenoid is either broken (open circuit) or has an unintended connection to the tractor's chassis ground (short to ground).

Check the cause

  1. Monitor Solenoid Current: Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu (e.g., Channel 106 X-955) to monitor the Mid Range solenoid current. A healthy circuit should read 0 mA when the clutch is off, and approximately 750 mA when the solenoid is commanded on.

  2. Inspect the Wiring Harness: Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller to the transmission control valve block. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Test Solenoid Resistance: Disconnect the electrical connector at the Mid Range solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. If the reading shows infinite resistance (open) or zero resistance (shorted internally), the solenoid coil has failed.

  4. Check for Shorts to Ground: With the solenoid disconnected, measure the resistance between the power supply wire in the harness and the tractor's chassis ground. If there is continuity, the wiring harness is shorted to ground and must be repaired.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the specific Mid Range clutch solenoid using the hydraulic schematic for your exact model.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical connector from the Mid Range solenoid. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    If the diagnostic checks proved the solenoid is faulty, remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid coil or cartridge valve to the valve block.

  5. Clean and Replace

    Ensure the area around the valve block is clean so no dirt enters the hydraulic system. Install the new solenoid valve/coil and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications. If replacing the cartridge, ensure the new O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid.

  6. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid.

  7. Calibration

    Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Clear the stored TRANS 2348 fault code. You will likely need to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure the new solenoid engages the Mid Range clutch smoothly.
