New Holland TRANS 2351 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / TRANS: The creeper clutch solenoid is open circuit or short to ground.
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for actuating the creeper gear clutch. An open circuit means there is a break in the wiring or the solenoid coil has failed internally, preventing current flow. A short to ground means the power supply wire for the solenoid is chafed or damaged and is touching the tractor's chassis or another ground source, which pulls the voltage to zero and prevents the solenoid from energizing.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the creeper clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block and its wiring harness for damage, chafing, melting, pinched wires, corrosion, bent pins, or moisture.
Perform a coil resistance test (open circuit check) by disconnecting the connector and measuring resistance across the solenoid coil pins. Infinite (OL) means open/broken, zero/low means shorted.
Test harness continuity and check for a short to ground between the power wire and chassis ground with the solenoid disconnected.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key. Allow the transmission fluid to cool.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission valve block where the creeper solenoid is located to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the creeper clutch solenoid.
Removal
Remove the retaining hardware (usually a retaining nut, bolt, or snap ring) holding the solenoid coil or the entire solenoid valve assembly to the valve block. Be prepared with a catch pan, as a small amount of transmission fluid may leak.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean OEM transmission fluid. Carefully insert the new solenoid into the valve block, ensuring it seats properly without pinching the O-rings.
Secure
Install and tighten the retaining hardware to the OEM torque specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid. Ensure it clicks and locks into place.
Clear Codes and Test
Turn the key on, use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard diagnostic display to clear the TRANS 2351 fault code. Start the tractor and test the engagement of the creeper gears to verify the repair. Check for hydraulic leaks around the new solenoid.
