TRANS 2353

New Holland TRANS 2353 – TRANS: Even Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts, current sensed while driver is off.

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting electrical current flowing through the Even Clutch Solenoid circuit even when the controller is not actively commanding the solenoid to turn on (the driver circuit is "off"). This condition is typically caused by a short to power (+12V) in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Use the tractor's diagnostic menu or scanner to verify the active TRANS 2353 code and check for related history codes like TRANS 104 or TRANS 114.

  2. Inspect the transmission wiring harness and the connector at the Even Clutch Solenoid for chafed wires, melted insulation, corrosion, or pin push-out.

  3. Perform a disconnect test: With ignition off, disconnect the Even Clutch Solenoid, then turn ignition on. If the code changes to an open circuit code (e.g., TRANS 104), the short is internal to the solenoid. If TRANS 2353 remains, the short is in the wiring harness.

  4. Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil across its pins and compare to factory specifications.

  5. Backprobe the harness connector with a multimeter; if you read +12V on the control wire when the solenoid is not commanded, the harness is shorted to a power source (wiring harness cause).

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the transmission control valve block on the transmission housing.

    The Even Clutch Solenoid is grouped on this block alongside the Odd, Master, and C1-2/C3-4 solenoids.

  3. Clean the area around the Even Clutch Solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission valve body.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Even Clutch Solenoid.

  5. Remove the retaining fastener holding the solenoid in the valve block and pull the faulty solenoid out.

  6. Remove the old O-rings, lubricate the new O-rings with clean transmission fluid, and install them on the new solenoid.

  7. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and secure it with the retaining fastener.

  8. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  9. Clear the stored fault codes from the transmission controller.

  10. Perform a transmission clutch calibration.

    Often accessed via the "H1" diagnostic routine on the instrument cluster so the transmission controller can learn the spring pressure and fill times for the new solenoid.
