New Holland TRANS 2354 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): C1-2 Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts, current sensed while driver is off.
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting electrical current flowing through the C1-2 (Clutch C) solenoid circuit when the controller is not actively commanding the solenoid to open. This indicates a short to battery power (+12V) somewhere in the wiring harness, a failed solenoid, or an internal short within the controller's driver circuit.

Check the cause
Test the C1-2 (Clutch C) solenoid resistance: Disconnect the solenoid connector (C026) and measure resistance between terminals A and B. It should be 6-8 Ohms. If outside this range, the solenoid is internally shorted.
Check for harness short to +12V: If the solenoid tests okay, leave it disconnected, disconnect the TCU connectors, turn the key ON, and measure voltage on the harness side of the solenoid connector. If +12V is present, the harness is shorted to power.
Inspect the wiring: Check the harness routing from the transmission valve block to the cab for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom.
Repair steps
Prepare tractor for service
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental shorting.
Clean valve block
Thoroughly clean the exterior of the transmission valve block around the C1-2 (Clutch C) solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect solenoid
Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove retaining hardware
Remove the retaining bolts or snap-ring securing the solenoid to the valve block.
Remove solenoid
Carefully pull the solenoid out of the bore. Discard the old O-rings.
Lubricate O-rings
Lubricate the O-rings on the new replacement solenoid with clean transmission fluid.
Insert new solenoid
Insert the new solenoid into the valve block, ensuring it seats fully without pinching the O-rings.
Reinstall retaining hardware
Reinstall the retaining hardware and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect electrical and battery
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.
Clear fault codes
Clear the stored fault codes via the tractor's diagnostic menu.
Perform Transmission Clutch Calibration
Crucial Final Step: Perform a Transmission Clutch Calibration. Because a clutch control solenoid was replaced, the TCU must relearn the fill times and engagement pressures for Clutch C to prevent harsh shifting or clutch slippage.
