New Holland TRANS 2360 – Transmission Control Module: Reverse Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts

Issue description

The transmission controller is sensing electrical current flowing through the reverse clutch solenoid circuit even when the driver (the controller's output command) is turned off.

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the tractor is securely parked on level ground, the parking brake is engaged, and the machine cannot move during testing.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the reverse clutch solenoid and measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. Expected resistance is 8 to 11 Ohms. If outside this range, the solenoid is internally shorted.

  3. If the solenoid tests okay, check for a short to power in the wiring harness. Disconnect the main transmission controller (CCU) connector, turn the ignition switch ON, and measure the voltage between the solenoid signal wire and chassis ground. If +12V is present, trace and repair the short in the wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the transmission valve body on the side/top of the transmission housing where the clutch solenoids are mounted. Identify the specific solenoid for the reverse clutch.

  3. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid with brake cleaner or a degreaser to prevent dirt and debris from entering the transmission's hydraulic system when the valve is removed.

  4. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the reverse clutch solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts or hardware securing the solenoid to the valve body. Carefully pull the solenoid straight out.

  5. Installation

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new replacement solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve body, ensuring it seats fully without pinching the O-rings.

  6. Reassembly

    Reinstall and tighten the retaining hardware to the manufacturer's torque specifications. Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.

  7. Calibration

    Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and clear the stored TRANS 2360 fault code. You will likely need to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor to ensure smooth engagement of the reverse clutch.
